Enjoy Your Travels To Margaret River In Perth West Australia

Many of the tourists who visit Australia do not make it to the Western part of the continent, and that is a real shame! We have spent almost two months finding the best places for tourists to visit in Australia. We are happy to include the beautiful and tranquil Margaret River region.

Margaret River is tucked only a few hours south of West Australia’s capital in Perth. It is an excellent spot in which to disconnect from every day life and reconnect with loved ones.

We found a spacious GuesttoGuest house that is around the corner from Main Street, so there were conveniently many restaurants and surf shops nearby. Our family enjoyed an amazing week in this region. Here are some of our favourite things to do in Margaret River.

Meet the Neighbors in Hamelin Bay

West Australia features a variety of amazing wildlife that sometimes can be dangerous. Hamelin Bay is one area where you can see animals like the giant rays up close. Rays came within a few feet of the shore, and we even saw some swim right up to people.

I was nervous about touching one, but after it swam close to my leg I couldn’t help but reach out and touch its smooth yet slimy cartilage. When you visit, it is a good idea to park by the boat ramp so you are close to where the rays seem to congregate. Make sure that you wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet.

Explore the Mammoth Cave

The caves at Margaret River are among the unique spots to visit in the region. We loved our visit to Mammoth Cave. You can view stalactites and stalagmites, megafauna fossils, and just everyday walk through the caves to see the natural splendours. Make sure to bring a comfortable baby carrier if you have a baby or toddler with you. Kids can be frightened there, so bring along a compact flashlight.

Camp Leeuwin Lighthouse

The Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is considered the tallest lighthouse on the mainland of Australia. It is more than a century old. It is where Matthew Flinders first arrived as he became the first European individual to travel around the Australian coast, in 1622. You can watch the waves of the South and Indian oceans as they crash against each other. Keep in mind that there is a minimum age of 4 years old to be allowed to climb the 176 steps to the lighthouse’s top.
